Memo Says Yates Ordered FBI to Halt 2016 Clinton Foundation Probe

A newly-declassified FBI timeline and internal emails indicate that then-Deputy Attorney General Sally Yates told prosecutors in 2016 to “shut it down,” halting a criminal corruption probe into the Clinton Foundation, according to documents obtained by investigative reporter John Solomon and published by Just the News. The materials, secured recently by FBI Director Kash Patel, describe repeated roadblocks senior Justice Department and bureau officials placed on agents in New York, Little Rock and Washington who were examining whether donors received State Department favors while Hillary Clinton was secretary of state. The timeline shows the Justice Department signaled as early as February 2016 that it would not support the inquiry and that former FBI Deputy Director Andrew McCabe required his personal approval for any investigative steps. Agents seeking subpoenas and grand-jury assistance said at least three U.S. attorneys’ offices declined to help, the records state. After Yates’s reported directive, investigators were barred from recruiting new informants or obtaining financial documents tied to 19 Clinton Foundation accounts, effectively stalling the case through the 2016 election and beyond. The disclosure comes as Attorney General Pam Bondi has authorized a strike force and grand jury to examine whether prior decisions to limit the Clinton investigation—and to pursue unrelated probes of Donald Trump—amounted to obstruction.
