Public support for President Donald Trump’s marquee domestic policy package has faded sharply, according to a new CNN/SSRS survey conducted 10-13 July. Sixty-one percent of respondents say they oppose the recently enacted ‘megalaw’, while just 39 percent back it. Only 29 percent believe the measure will help the U.S. economy, and 58 percent think the president has gone too far in cutting federal programs to finance the legislation. Trump’s overall job approval in the poll stands at 42 percent, but the share who “approve strongly” has slipped to 21 percent, the lowest reading recorded during either of his terms. Separate data from an Economist/YouGov survey fielded 11-14 July place Trump’s approval at 41 percent and disapproval at 55 percent, yielding a net rating of –14, close to his record low with that pollster. The figures suggest a broadening erosion of support beyond the policy backlash registered in the CNN poll. Dissatisfaction is not confined to the White House. A mid-July Quinnipiac University poll finds the Democratic Party’s national approval at just 19 percent, an historic low for the caucus in the university’s tracking. The twin declines underline widespread voter discontent with both major parties as they head toward the 2026 midterm cycle.
