Democratic lawmakers intensified their criticism of Congressional Republicans after a party-line vote last week that they say will strip health coverage from about 17 million Americans. Senator Chuck Schumer said the measure would push premiums higher and lead to tens of thousands of preventable deaths, calling it “morally bankrupt.” Senators Bernie Sanders and Jacky Rosen, along with Representatives Ami Bera, Jason Crow and others, argued the bill prioritizes tax breaks for billionaires and corporations while gutting Medicaid and other safety-net programs. Several members also warned that the legislation’s cuts to the Supplemental Nutrition Assistance Program would leave millions facing food insecurity. Democrats vowed to keep the issue in the public eye and pledged to fight to restore the threatened benefits as the legislation advances through Congress.
Chuck Schumer with the hysterics: "About 17 million Americans will be ripped off healthcare. Tens of thousands will die... Why? To give tax cuts to billionaires. It's profane. It's morally bankrupt. It's sickening." https://t.co/QekQ9tlG3H
It's bad enough that Republicans are giving even more tax breaks to billionaires and big corporations. What's worse is that working Americans will pay the price. 17 million Americans will lose their health care. Millions will go hungry. It's unconscionable. https://t.co/bLQTsb5ggg
Nearly every Congressional Republican voted for a bill that RIPS healthcare away from 17 million Americans. We will not forget.
