Florida lawmakers approved a $115.1 billion state budget for the fiscal year 2025-2026 after a prolonged legislative session that extended 45 days past the original deadline, narrowly avoiding a state government shutdown. The budget, passed with overwhelming support in both the House (103-2) and Senate (34-0), includes $1.3 billion in tax relief and represents a $3 billion reduction from the previous year. Governor Ron DeSantis signed the budget into law on June 30, 2025, after issuing nearly $600 million in vetoes aimed at reducing state spending. Alongside the budget, DeSantis announced a 2nd Amendment Tax Holiday from September 8 to December 31, 2025, exempting firearms, ammunition, accessories, and outdoor gear from sales tax. He also signed a $1.6 billion tax-cut package that eliminates the commercial-lease tax and provides sales-tax breaks on back-to-school and hurricane-preparedness items. Florida has been recognized by CNBC as the strongest economy in the U.S. for the third consecutive year and was ranked No. 1 by the First Liberty Institute for protecting religious liberty. DeSantis highlighted Florida's fiscal management, including nearly 50% state debt reduction, $15.7 billion in budget reserves, no state income tax, and efficient state services.
