World Liberty Financial (WLFI), a decentralized finance project linked to former U.S. President Donald Trump, has proposed a governance vote to test its airdrop system by distributing its USD1 stablecoin to all current WLFI token holders. The airdrop aims to validate the technical functionality of the system, reward early supporters, and introduce the USD1 stablecoin to the community. The USD1 stablecoin, launched in late March, is fully collateralized by U.S. Treasuries, fiat currency reserves, and other liquid cash equivalents. It will initially be deployed on Ethereum Mainnet and Binance Smart Chain. WLFI has clarified that the airdrop's timing and amount, set at $1 per wallet, will be determined based on eligible wallets and available resources. The company reserves the right to modify or cancel the test. The proposal has sparked political scrutiny due to the Trump family's financial ties to WLFI, which has raised $550 million through token sales, with $390 million reportedly paid to Trump-linked entity DT Marks DEFI LLC. Democratic lawmakers, including Elizabeth Warren and Maxine Waters, have raised concerns over potential conflicts of interest and regulatory oversight, prompting calls for investigations by the SEC and Federal Reserve. The proposal also coincides with debates over the bipartisan STABLE Act.
