As of June 30, 2025, the Venezuelan NGO Foro Penal has documented 940 political prisoners across the country. Among those detained are 96 women, 844 men, 771 civilians, 169 military personnel, and four adolescents. The detainees also include 85 foreigners and 50 individuals whose whereabouts remain unknown. The rise in detentions has been notably high since last year's elections. Various organizations, journalists, and press workers in Venezuela have called for the release of 20 detained colleagues, including opposition activists. The political party Voluntad Popular has specifically demanded the release of Aldo Rosso, an activist from the El Valle parish who has been held for a year on charges related to alleged attacks on the national electrical system. Martha Ramos, president of the Press Freedom Commission of the Inter-American Press Society, described the number of detentions since the elections as alarming.
