Speculation over the launch price of Rockstar Games’ Grand Theft Auto VI intensified after Wedbush Securities analyst Michael Pachter told The Telegraph he expects the base game to debut at $100, a record for a mainstream console title. Rhys Elliott of Alinea Analytics countered that a triple-digit sticker would be counter-productive because Rockstar already generates steady, high-margin income from GTA Online microtransactions. He argued that setting the entry price too high would shrink GTA VI’s potential audience, particularly during a global cost-of-living squeeze, and slow the migration of the franchise’s 215 million GTA V players. Elliott believes Rockstar is more likely to price the standard edition at about $80 and reserve $100-plus tiers for premium bundles that include early access or in-game currency, mirroring other big-budget releases. Take-Two Interactive may clarify its strategy when it reports quarterly results and fields analyst questions on Aug. 7. GTA VI is scheduled to launch for PlayStation 5 and Xbox Series X|S on May 26 2026.
