The developers of the hit co-operative climbing game “Peak” have urged players to pirate their own title rather than spend money on a recently released Roblox imitation called “Cliff.” In a post on X, Seattle-based studio Aggro Crab Games said it would "rather you pirate our game than play this microtransaction-riddled Roblox slop ripoff," a message later endorsed by co-developer Landfall Games. “Peak,” launched on PC in June for $8, climbed to almost 115,000 concurrent users on Steam and contains no in-game purchases. By contrast, “Cliff,” created by Roblox developer PewStudio, copies key artwork, mechanics and level layouts while charging for items such as a stamina-saving pickaxe priced at 200 Robux—about $2.50—alongside other paid power-ups. Aggro Crab’s unusually blunt appeal highlights mounting frustration among independent studios over low-cost clones that appear on user-generated platforms and monetize through microtransactions. Neither Roblox Corp. nor PewStudio has commented on the allegations.
