President Donald Trump made an unannounced stop Friday morning at “The People’s House: A White House Experience,” a museum and gift shop run by the White House Historical Association across from the Executive Mansion. Wearing a baseball cap emblazoned “45-47” and accompanied by Chief of Staff Susie Wiles, the president spent several minutes touring the exhibit and greeting visitors. The visit was not listed on his public schedule; reporters were hastily moved from the White House after being told of an unexpected presidential movement. Following the museum visit, Trump proceeded to the Kennedy Center before returning to the White House mid-afternoon. The detour forced the postponement of a previously advertised Oval Office statement that had been slated for noon Eastern time. The White House has not announced a new time for the remarks or disclosed their subject. The president’s address is expected to follow a week of intensive diplomacy aimed at brokering a settlement to the three-year war between Russia and Ukraine. Earlier in the week Trump hosted Ukrainian President Volodymyr Zelenskiy and European leaders in Washington after meeting Russian President Vladimir Putin in Alaska, saying the parties would know within “a week or two” whether negotiations could succeed.
