Major online retailers and electronics chains rolled out unusually steep Back-to-School promotions on 18 August, delivering the widest slate of 2025 price cuts on computers, phones and gaming hardware. Amazon, Best Buy, Walmart and AliExpress each advertised one-day or flash discounts that in many cases pushed flagship products to their lowest levels since launch. Apple hardware saw some of the biggest reductions. The Apple Watch Ultra 2 fell to a record $649.99 at Amazon and Best Buy, while the entry-level M4 Mac mini slipped to $499 after a $100 markdown. Amazon also knocked $500 off 24GB-RAM M3 MacBook Air models, and authorized resellers cut as much as $693 from Mac Studio systems. Beats Studio Pro headphones and the Apple Watch Series 10 returned to their lifetime lows. In gaming, AliExpress introduced the first discount on the Nintendo Switch 2 barely two months after release, pricing the console and Mario Kart World bundle at €408 in Europe and $428.99 in the United States with coupon codes. Separate promotions lowered the Switch Pro Controller by 39 percent at Walmart and trimmed prices on Sony’s PS5 Slim. Samsung’s Galaxy line was equally affected: the 1 TB Galaxy Tab S10 Ultra dropped by as much as $620 when paired with its official keyboard, and Amazon listed the Galaxy Z Fold 7 at $1,699.99—$300 below launch. French e-commerce sites advertised 40 percent cuts on the Galaxy S25 Ultra, while Xiaomi, Honor and Poco phones were offered at discounts approaching 50 percent. Peripheral and storage deals rounded out the day’s offers. Best Buy restocked Seagate’s 1 TB FireCuda 530R SSD at $90, matching its all-time low, and Walmart cut the Sony WH-1000XM5 headphones by $111. The breadth and depth of the markdowns signal intensified competition for discretionary tech spending as students return to school and retailers seek to clear mid-year inventory.
