Google on Wednesday began rolling out Gemini 2.5 Pro, its most advanced large language model, to the AI Mode interface in Search for U.S. subscribers to the paid Google AI Pro and AI Ultra plans. The company said the upgraded model improves performance on complex reasoning, mathematics and coding questions and can be selected through a new model picker. Subscribers are also gaining access to Deep Search, a tool that issues hundreds of background queries and compiles fully cited, multi-step research reports intended to save users hours of work. In a parallel move, Google is making an agentic, AI-powered business-calling service available to all Search users in the United States after six months of testing in Search Labs. The feature, powered by Gemini and the company’s Duplex voice technology, can telephone local businesses to gather pricing and availability information and relay the results by text or email. Calls begin with the system identifying itself as an AI, and business owners can opt out via their Google Business Profile. Paid subscribers receive higher daily usage limits. Robby Stein, vice president of product for Google Search, said the calling tool ‘will announce itself as an AI from Google … so that you don’t have to spend time doing this.’ The additions are part of Google’s broader effort to fold its Gemini models more deeply into Search as competition intensifies with rival generative-AI offerings from OpenAI, Microsoft and Perplexity.
