Google has launched Gemini Code Assist, a free AI-powered coding tool for individual developers, offering up to 180,000 code completions per month. This tool, powered by the Gemini 2.0 model fine-tuned for coding tasks, supports 22 programming languages and integrates with popular IDEs like Visual Studio Code and JetBrains. It provides advanced capabilities such as code completion, error explanation, and debugging support, positioning it as a competitor to other AI coding assistants like GitHub Copilot. Alongside, Google introduced Gemini Code Assist for GitHub, which offers automated code analysis and review features directly within GitHub repositories, utilizing a context window of 128,000 tokens for handling large files. This tool is powered by the advanced Gemini 1.5 Pro model. In addition to coding assistance, Google has enhanced its Gemini AI capabilities in other areas. Google Sheets now features a Gemini-powered upgrade that allows users to analyze data faster and create advanced visualizations such as heatmaps, available to all Workspace business users. This upgrade is part of the broader Gemini Advanced offering, which is included in the Google One AI Premium plan.
