A fiery single-vehicle crash shut down the westbound lanes of Loop 202 Red Mountain Freeway at Broadway Road in east Mesa on Wednesday morning, according to the Arizona Department of Transportation. Arizona Department of Public Safety investigators said a Ford F-150 struck the bridge barrier and burst into flames. Passers-by attempted to help the sole occupant, who was transported with serious injuries. Traffic was being forced off the freeway at Broadway Road, and officials gave no estimate for when the lanes would reopen. While crews worked to clear the scene on Loop 202, ADOT separately advised drivers that the northbound Loop 101 on-ramp at Raintree Drive in Scottsdale will close late Sunday, 20 July, for roughly 60 days. The long-term closure is part of a widening project that adds a general-purpose lane in each direction between Princess Drive/Pima Road and Shea Boulevard. Motorists are urged to use the Frank Lloyd Wright Boulevard on-ramp or other alternate routes and to consult the AZ511 app for real-time updates.
