Arizona Department of Public Safety troopers pursued a white tanker truck for roughly 33 miles on Friday afternoon, July 4, after receiving multiple reports that the vehicle was swerving across lanes on Interstate 10. DPS located the truck near Loop 202 in Mesa and attempted to stop it, but the driver refused to pull over, prompting a freeway chase that continued west through the Phoenix metropolitan area. Video of the pursuit shows troopers employing traffic breaks, spike strips and a boxing-in maneuver before the driver halted near the Loop 303 interchange in Goodyear. The chase temporarily shut down a stretch of I-10 for less than half an hour, according to the Arizona Department of Transportation. The driver, identified as 29-year-old Juan Magdaleno, was taken into custody without injuries reported. He was booked on suspicion of driving under the influence and unlawful flight from law enforcement. DPS is investigating whether Magdaleno had permission to operate the tanker truck.
