Tesla has announced plans to expand its Robotaxi service coverage in Austin, Texas, with the service set to open to the public next month, according to Elon Musk. Additionally, Tesla intends to launch Robotaxi operations in selected Asian markets. In related autonomous vehicle developments, WeRide has secured a strategic equity investment from Grab as part of a partnership to accelerate the deployment of Level 4 Robotaxis and autonomous shuttles in Southeast Asia. This investment, expected to be completed by the first half of 2026, supports WeRide's goal to deploy thousands of Robotaxis in the region. Meanwhile, Uber Freight CEO Lior Ron is leaving the company to join self-driving startup Waabi as chief operating officer. Waabi plans to begin fully autonomous trucking operations in the U.S. later this year and scale up throughout 2026. Ron will transition to chairman at Uber Freight as part of this move. Industry observers note that Uber's freight unit is unprofitable and has limited synergy with its core ride-hailing and delivery businesses.
