Firefighters contained a large blaze that broke out Monday afternoon at a lakeside home on Woolford Road in Wrentham, Massachusetts, according to local authorities. A woman escaped the two-story house by jumping from a second-floor balcony and was treated for smoke inhalation, Wrentham Police Chief Bill McGrath said. Crews from neighboring Franklin assisted as flames spread toward Lake Pearl; the cause remains under investigation. Late Sunday, a separate two-alarm fire gutted an apartment building at 268 Powderhouse Boulevard in Somerville. Somerville Fire Chief Charles Breen said an unattended candle likely ignited the blaze, forcing one resident to jump onto a mattress dragged outside by neighbors. Another occupant was rescued from inside and taken to hospital with serious injuries, and a firefighter sustained minor wounds. Heavy smoke and water damage left nine units uninhabitable, and officials are continuing their inquiry into the incident.
