A predawn blaze tore through a single-family home in Waldorf, Maryland, on Sunday, killing four children and two adults, according to the Maryland State Fire Marshal’s Office. The fire was reported at 8:40 a.m. in the Charles County community about 55 miles south of Baltimore. Nine people lived in the house; one adult escaped and two others were away at the time. Roughly 70 firefighters from the Waldorf Volunteer Fire Department and surrounding companies battled the flames for more than an hour before bringing them under control. One firefighter was taken to hospital and another first responder was treated on site for minor injuries. Investigators say the fire appears to have begun on an enclosed porch on the right side of the residence. Master Deputy State Fire Marshal Oliver Alkire said there is no indication of criminal activity, and the probe is focused on accidental causes. Authorities have not yet released the victims’ names or ages.
