Two people died and a third remains in critical condition after a predawn house fire in northwest suburban Streamwood, Illinois, authorities said Tuesday. Firefighters were dispatched shortly after 1:15 a.m. to the 1200 block of North Green Meadows Boulevard, where they encountered heavy smoke and flames from a two-story residence, according to Fire Chief Mike Meyer. Crews located and removed three occupants, extinguished a large blaze in the basement and administered life-saving measures, but two victims later succumbed to their injuries. The surviving occupant was transported to a local hospital in critical condition. The home sustained an estimated $150,000 in damage. Multiple neighboring departments assisted, and state fire marshals are investigating; initial findings do not indicate foul play.
