Authorities have launched an arson investigation following a deadly fire that broke out early Thursday morning on the West Side, resulting in the deaths of four people, including a young child. The blaze occurred in an apartment located on the first floor of Block F, 408 Sul, in the Asa Sul neighborhood. Firefighters found the remains of a previously unaccounted-for resident, raising the death toll from three to four. Residents reported that the victim, who lived in the apartment with his wife who escaped unharmed, had comorbidities and was unable to leave the premises. The fire was confined to the living room but was fueled by a large amount of flammable materials such as books, furniture, curtains, and electronics. The search for a missing person continues in the Austin neighborhood, where another deadly apartment fire occurred. Authorities are working to determine the cause of the fires, treating them as arson cases.
