Brazil has reported its first cases of the Covid-19 variant XFG, with occurrences confirmed in the states of São Paulo and Ceará. The World Health Organization classifies the XFG variant as a "variant under monitoring," noting it has significant genetic changes and a higher potential for spread compared to other strains. This variant is already present in 38 countries worldwide. Meanwhile, Brazil is also experiencing a notable rise in hepatitis A cases, with a 54.5% increase reported in 2024. The state of São Paulo has seen a 90% rise in hepatitis A cases during the first half of the year. Despite this increase, vaccination coverage against hepatitis among children has reached 94%.
