Grêmio reached a long-sought agreement to take control of its home ground after supporter and businessman Marcelo Marques acquired the stadium’s outstanding debt and management rights for about R$130 million and pledged to donate them to the club. Marques paid R$80 million to buy two-thirds of the construction debt held by asset manager Revee and a further R$50 million to Arena Porto-Alegrense for the operating concession. The deal, announced on 15 July alongside club president Alberto Guerra, accelerates Grêmio’s full ownership of the 2012-built Arena, which under previous contracts would have remained under third-party management until 2033. A transition period with the current operators will run until the end of 2025, after which the club expects to assume complete administration and revenue streams from ticket sales, naming rights and events. Grêmio estimates the change could lift annual income by R$50 million to R$100 million once operations are fully integrated. Marques, a declared candidate in the club’s upcoming presidential election, said the purchase was made "as a donation from one supporter to the club" and that he seeks no commercial return from the transaction.
