Sabesp, the water and sewage utility company in São Paulo, suspended the release of untreated sewage into the Rio Tietê following notification from the environmental agency Cetesb. The sewage discharge had been used as a temporary measure to drain the network in an area undergoing repairs due to a crater caused by infrastructure damage. Sabesp subsequently presented a plan of action to contain the sewage along the Marginal Tietê. Separately, a rupture of a water main on Rua Chico de Paula in the Freguesia do Ó neighborhood of São Paulo's northern zone caused flooding in homes and streets, damage to a school wall, and significant disruption to residents, including a two-day water outage. Sabesp, along with the city's Civil Defense and traffic authorities, has been involved in containment and cleanup efforts. The utility company has committed to completing repairs by July 4, with investigations ongoing into the cause of the rupture. Despite restoration of water supply to affected neighborhoods, residents continue to face challenges such as blocked garages and inoperative elevators due to residual mud and damage. The incident has led to property damage, including one house being interdicted and slated for demolition.
