Multiple large sinkholes have recently appeared across various locations in Mexico, causing infrastructure damage, vehicle accidents, and injuries. In Mexico City, a three-meter diameter and depth sinkhole emerged on Avenida De Las Torres in Iztapalapa due to a rupture in a main drainage line dating back to the 1970s. In the Gustavo A. Madero borough, a nearly four-meter diameter and eight-meter deep sinkhole formed in a playground area of the Esmeralda 1 housing unit, caused by a sewage leak. The most severe incident occurred in the Guadalajara metropolitan area, where a massive sinkhole approximately 25 meters long, three meters deep, and varying widths between three to ten meters opened on Avenida Malecón, between Guadalajara and Tonalá. This sinkhole swallowed three vehicles, including a family car, a transport truck, and a sand truck, resulting in four people sustaining minor injuries, including two children aged three years and two months, a one-year-old infant, and a 32-year-old woman. The sinkhole in Guadalajara was attributed to heavy storms and asphalt collapse, prompting ongoing emergency repairs expected to continue until at least Thursday, weather permitting. Additional sinkholes have been reported in Tlaquepaque, measuring about 12 meters long, six meters wide, and five meters deep, and in other parts of Mexico City such as Circuito Interior and Oriente 106 in Ramos Millán, where a nearly 10-meter deep sinkhole has remained unaddressed for over two weeks. Authorities have urged caution in affected areas and are undertaking repair efforts amid ongoing heavy rains contributing to the ground instability.
