Several central London routes were disrupted on Tuesday afternoon after a series of unrelated incidents forced police and transport officials to close key roads and divert bus services. Knightsbridge was shut in both directions between Brompton Road and Trevor Place shortly after 14:30 local time because of what authorities described as an emergency incident. The A315 stretch reopened less than 30 minutes later, but Transport for London kept routes 9, 52 and 452 on diversion while congestion cleared. Elsewhere, Woburn Place was sealed off near Russell Square following a traffic accident, and the Strand Underpass was closed when an over-height coach became stuck. In south-east London, Ilderton Road in Bermondsey remained closed from Rotherhithe New Road to Surrey Canal Road after a burst water main earlier in the day, forcing the diversion of bus P12. Transport officials advised motorists to avoid the affected areas and warned of residual delays during the evening peak.
