Marcus Arduini Monzo, a 37-year-old Spanish-Brazilian man, has been found guilty of murdering 14-year-old schoolboy Daniel Anjorin during a samurai sword rampage in Hainault, northeast London, on April 30, 2024. The attack lasted approximately 20 minutes and involved Monzo fatally slashing Anjorin as he walked to school, as well as injuring five other individuals, including two police officers. Prosecutors established that Monzo was in a cannabis-induced psychotic state at the time of the attack, which was described as deliberate with the intent to kill multiple people. Monzo showed no reaction as the verdict was read and is set to face a life sentence. On June 27, 2025, he was sentenced to life imprisonment with a minimum term of 40 years, meaning he will not be eligible for parole until he is at least 75 years old. The Metropolitan Police Commissioner expressed hope that the verdict would bring some measure of justice and closure for Anjorin's family. The case has drawn international attention, with various media outlets reporting on the details of the rampage and the subsequent trial.
