National Hot Dog Day—established by the National Hot Dog and Sausage Council and celebrated on the third Wednesday in July—falls in the middle of what the trade group calls “hot-dog season,” the period between Memorial Day and Labor Day when Americans purchase roughly 38 percent of the year’s frankfurters, amounting to about $1.16 billion in sales.
