Starbucks is adding a patriotic twist to its summer lineup with the Firework Frappuccino, a red-white-and-blue blended beverage that will be sold nationwide for one week only, from July 1 through July 7. The drink layers the chain’s Summer-Berry Refresher with coconut milk over raspberry-flavored “popping” pearls and tops the mixture with strawberry purée and vanilla sweet-cream cold foam. The limited-run Frappuccino is the first of four new blended drinks the Seattle-based coffee giant plans to introduce in July. Later in the month, stores are slated to receive the Salted Caramel Mocha Strato, Strawberry Matcha Strato and Brown Sugar Strato Frappuccinos, expanding a category the company recently pared back. Starbucks eliminated nine signature Frappuccino varieties in March as part of its “Back to Starbucks” streamlining effort and, on June 24, began charging U.S. customers 80 cents for each additional syrup or sauce added to an unflavored beverage. The Independence Day promotion offers the company a seasonal marketing boost while testing demand for new Frappuccino concepts as it continues to adjust its sprawling menu.
