It’s outrageous the complete disregard ICE shows for our communities. Trespassing and urinating on school property is unacceptable under any circumstances, but doing so when children may be present is absolutely indefensible. https://t.co/w9n8ADahwV

The El Rancho Unified School District has released surveillance footage that appears to show roughly a dozen federal immigration agents from U.S. Immigration and Customs Enforcement and Customs and Border Protection urinating on the campus of Ruben Salazar High School in Pico Rivera, California. According to district officials, eight to ten marked and unmarked vehicles entered the parking lot without a warrant at about 8:54 a.m. on 17 June. Between then and 9:04 a.m., several agents were recorded relieving themselves behind storage containers next to a preschool playground and adjacent to Valencia Academy of the Arts, where summer classes were under way. Board President John Contreras and Superintendent Marco Villegas called the behaviour “deeply disturbing” and said the agents had “unlawfully trespassed” and risked exposing themselves to minors. In a 2 July letter to Homeland Security Secretary Kristi Noem and ICE Acting Director Todd Lyons, the district demanded the names and badge numbers of those involved and a full federal investigation. Los Angeles County Supervisor Janice Hahn has backed the district’s request, describing the agents’ conduct as “a slap in the face to our communities.” A Department of Homeland Security spokesperson confirmed the incident “is under investigation.”
