About 20 people were taken to hospital after a transit bus struck railroad tracks and overturned in Lancaster, California, on Wednesday morning, according to the Los Angeles County Fire Department and the California Highway Patrol. The crash was reported at roughly 11:20 a.m. on Sierra Highway near Avenue C. An eight-year-old boy was airlifted in stable condition, while at least one other patient was listed as critical. The mix of adults and children aboard the bus was not immediately confirmed. Authorities shut both directions of Sierra Highway as investigators examined the scene and notified Union Pacific and Metrolink of damage to the rail line. The cause of the accident remains under investigation.
