At least 36 pilgrims heading to the annual Amarnath Yatra were injured on Saturday morning when five buses in their convoy collided near the Chanderkote langar site on the Jammu–Srinagar National Highway in Ramban district, Jammu & Kashmir. Authorities said the last vehicle in the Pahalgam-bound convoy lost control, apparently because of brake failure, and rammed into four stationary buses, triggering a chain reaction. Deputy Commissioner Mohammad Alyas Khan told reporters that all injuries were minor. The district administration, already positioned at the langar site, moved the wounded to District Hospital Ramban, where they were treated and later discharged or kept under observation. Dr. Mohammed Rafi, the hospital’s medical superintendent, confirmed no patients needed referral to tertiary care. Traffic on the highway was briefly disrupted but resumed after the damaged vehicles were towed away. Alternate transport has been arranged so the pilgrims can continue their journey, and the wider Yatra schedule remains unchanged. A technical inquiry has been ordered to verify the cause of the brake failure and assess vehicle safety compliance.
