Toronto police have arrested 34-year-old Joseph Ayala nearly a year after his mother and grandmother were found dead in a south Etobicoke home. Ayala was taken into custody on 14 July within the force’s 22 Division and charged with two counts of second-degree murder. Investigators were called to the Alderwood residence near Sheldon and Silvercrest avenues on 23 August 2024 for a wellness check. Officers discovered the bodies of 60-year-old Sharon Fraser and her 82-year-old mother, Colleen Fraser, and launched a province-wide manhunt for Ayala, who lived in the same home. Police have not disclosed the cause of death. Ayala is scheduled to appear in a Toronto court for a bail hearing on 15 July.
