Gauteng police have arrested a 31-year-old woman, described as a close relative of 11-year-old Jayden-Lee Meek, on a charge of murder. The suspect was taken into custody on Friday morning after what police said was an extensive investigation by Florida detectives assisted by the provincial investigative unit and a tracking team. Meek was reported missing on 13 May when his school transport dropped him at the Swazi apartment complex in Fleurhof, southwest Johannesburg. He was found the next morning unconscious on a staircase near the family’s flat and was declared dead at a nearby hospital. Bruising on his body prompted police to open a murder case. The accused is expected to appear in the Roodepoort magistrate’s court on Monday. Police said their investigation continues.
