Mexican President Claudia Sheinbaum traveled to Guatemala, where she met with Guatemalan President Bernardo Arévalo and Belizean Prime Minister Johnny Briceño to discuss bilateral cooperation on migration, security, and environmental protection. The leaders agreed on the importance of migration management and border security to ensure peace and safety in the region, emphasizing shared cultural and familial ties. A key outcome of the meetings was the announcement of the extension of Mexico's Tren Maya railway project to Guatemala, aiming to enhance regional connectivity. Additionally, Mexico, Guatemala, and Belize signed an agreement to establish the Corredor Biocultural Gran Selva Maya, a transnational conservation corridor covering 5.7 million hectares of rainforest. This initiative seeks to protect one of the world's largest and most important ecosystems while promoting the development of indigenous communities across the three countries. Environmental activists have called on President Sheinbaum to include local voices in the ongoing efforts to preserve this natural reserve. President Sheinbaum also expressed her commitment to reducing violence against women and fostering a sense of freedom and pride among them.
