Mexican President Claudia Sheinbaum has criticized the outgoing Supreme Court of Justice of the Nation (SCJN) for decisions including the release of criminals, overstepping legislative functions, and granting an injunction to Lorenzo Córdova that ordered the removal of his discriminatory remarks from textbooks. Sheinbaum accused the SCJN of closing its term with acts she described as racist. Meanwhile, Sheinbaum and Guatemalan President Bernardo Arévalo have been preparing for their first official bilateral meeting, scheduled for August 15 in Flores, Petén, Guatemala. The two leaders have coordinated via telephone to finalize details of the encounter, which aims to strengthen ties between their nations. The agenda includes discussions on border security, migration, and infrastructure projects such as the trinational Tren Maya railway. In addition to the bilateral meeting, a trilateral summit with Belizean Prime Minister John Briceño will take place in Calakmul, Mexico. Sheinbaum also announced plans to invite the new Supreme Court ministers to her first government report on September 1.
