An adult male paddleboarder drowned at Chatfield State Park in Jefferson County, Colorado, on Monday after a sudden gust of wind flipped his board, knocking him and two accompanying children into the reservoir, Colorado Parks and Wildlife said. Nearby paddleboarders were able to pull the children to safety, but the man disappeared beneath the water at about 4:25 p.m. Multiple agencies—including CPW, South Metro Fire Rescue, West Metro Fire and the Jefferson County Sheriff’s Office—mobilised nine boats and teams of divers to conduct an extensive grid search. The effort was officially shifted from rescue to recovery shortly before 7 p.m., and the man’s body was located around 7:15 p.m., CPW confirmed. Authorities have not released the victim’s identity while they notify next of kin, and an investigation into the drowning is under way.
