Boston police, working with the Massachusetts State Police and the FBI’s Child Exploitation and Human Trafficking Task Force, arrested 13 people on Monday, 11 August, during a targeted enforcement operation in Roxbury’s Mass and Cass corridor. The sweep focused on the intersection of Massachusetts Avenue and Melnea Cass Boulevard, an area authorities say has become a hub for sexual exploitation and related crime. Police said the initiative aimed to disrupt recruitment of trafficking victims, curb property crime and improve public safety. Among those detained were suspects ranging in age from 26 to 49, most charged with sexual conduct for a fee. One individual was booked for possession of a Class B substance, while others faced outstanding warrants that included assault and battery with a dangerous weapon, disorderly conduct and resisting arrest. All 13 defendants are expected to be arraigned in Roxbury District Court. Officials described the operation as part of an ongoing effort to reduce crime and improve conditions around New Market Square, an area long troubled by drug use and homelessness.
