Broward Deputy Fatally Shoots Man After Self-Inflicted Wound in Cooper City
A Broward Sheriff’s Office deputy fatally shot a man on Saturday after responding to reports that the same individual had wounded himself in the parking lot of a McDonald’s in Cooper City, authorities said. According to a preliminary BSO account, deputies arrived just after noon in the 10200 block of Griffin Road and found the man suffering from an apparent self-inflicted gunshot wound. When one deputy approached to render aid, the man allegedly attacked him, prompting the deputy to open fire. The man was pronounced dead at the scene. The deputy and the man’s mother, who was also present, were transported to a hospital with injuries that officials said were not caused by gunfire. The Florida Department of Law Enforcement has opened an investigation, which is standard procedure in officer-involved shootings. The identities of those involved have not been released.
