Police in Southern California say they have recovered about $30,000 worth of Labubu collectible dolls that were stolen from a warehouse in a series of trips spanning several days. Detectives from the Chino Police Department executed a search warrant at a home in Upland on 12 Aug., seizing 14 boxes of the plush toys and evidence they were being prepared for nationwide resale. One suspect attempted to flee but surrendered, and two juveniles were booked on burglary and conspiracy charges, according to a department statement. The warehouse burglary is the second major theft involving the fast-selling dolls this month. On 6 Aug., masked thieves used a stolen vehicle to smash into One Stop Sales in nearby La Puente and make off with an estimated $7,000 in merchandise. Authorities have not said whether the two cases are linked. Labubu dolls—designed by Hong Kong artist Kasing Lung and sold by Beijing-based Pop Mart—have become a viral fashion accessory, with limited editions fetching hundreds of dollars on resale platforms. Police said the toys recovered in Upland have been returned to their rightful owner, while the investigation into both thefts continues.
Detectives said they discovered several stolen credit cards and gift cards, and “dozens of boxes of stolen merchandise." https://t.co/H3nmdQkYwS
