Police now say 8 late-night robberies in River North since June share the same M.O.: a group of men approach the victim, make small talk, then suddenly launch into a violent attack. It’s CPD’s second warning about the crime pattern. https://t.co/vzHMvHZWzJ
A group of suspects have recently broken into at least 18 businesses across Chicago and stole an ATM or the money inside of it, police said. Some of the crimes were caught on surveillance video. https://t.co/zmZb7SZuTN
An overnight crime spree in Third Lake, Illinois was quite a devastating blow to some of their small shops. Surveillance video showed the moment a group of masked offenders smashed their way into a business. https://t.co/4JfZoOLEk0
Chicago police have issued two public safety alerts after a surge in coordinated thefts and robberies carried out by small crews operating overnight across the city. Investigators say a group of two to five men driving stolen or rented sport-utility vehicles has broken into at least 18 businesses since 2 June, prying open windows and removing entire automated teller machines or cash from inside the devices. The incidents span downtown, the Near North and Near West Sides as well as several Northwest, West and Southwest Side neighborhoods. Surveillance footage captured two of the August thefts on West Madison Street, but detectives have yet to identify the offenders. Separately, police linked eight robberies in River North’s nightlife district to another crew that approaches late-night bar patrons between midnight and 3 a.m., begins a brief conversation and then attacks, stealing personal belongings. Those assaults, involving three to five suspects described as men aged 20-40, date to 16 June. Authorities are urging businesses to secure ATMs and bar-goers to remain vigilant.
