Dallas Love Field closed Runway 13L/31R for roughly three hours on the U.S. Independence Day holiday after an unauthorized motorist breached a security gate and drove onto the tarmac, airport and federal officials said. Police said the driver intentionally struck another vehicle in a nearby parking lot around 6:10 a.m. local time before ramming through the gate. Officers pursued the car briefly on the airfield, halted airport operations and apprehended the man, who was later taken to a hospital for evaluation. No injuries were reported. The Federal Aviation Administration cleared the runway to reopen at about 9:17 a.m., though a section of the east side of the airfield remained cordoned off while Dallas Police and federal investigators examined the scene. Love Field, the primary base for Southwest Airlines, resumed normal operations on its west side, and the investigation continues.
