U.S. Immigration and Customs Enforcement (ICE) agents arrested Olvin Mauricio Martinez Coto, a 36-year-old Honduran fugitive listed among Honduras’ top 10 most wanted criminals. Martinez Coto was apprehended in Westbury, Long Island, after entering the United States illegally for the third time. He had previously been deported in 2007 and again in 2019 during the Trump administration. Martinez Coto fled Honduras to avoid prosecution and had been roaming Long Island undetected. Separately, another Honduran national, Hugo Gomez-Soto, residing in Portland, Oregon, has been federally charged with distributing fentanyl and causing a fatality. Gomez-Soto has pleaded not guilty. In San Francisco, a Honduran drug dealer deported in 2023 after serving a two-week prison sentence for fentanyl distribution was caught again with drugs packaged for sale after returning to the U.S. and remaining undetected for nearly a year. Oregon is noted as a sanctuary state, with local Democrats opposing some federal immigration enforcement measures.
