A Massachusetts State Police trooper attempted to question a group of motorists parked illegally on Quincy Shore Drive around 1:30 a.m. Tuesday when one driver sped away in a black Kia K5. The vehicle, whose registration had been revoked and which had previously eluded several police agencies, ran a red light at the intersection of Billings Road and Hancock Street. The Kia struck another car, propelling it through the front window of Balducci’s House of Pizza and causing additional damage to the adjacent Velocity Dance Studio. Broken glass, structural damage and twisted metal littered the storefronts, though no patrons were inside at the time. The driver, identified as 25-year-old Michael Howard of Raynham, suffered a head cut and was taken to a hospital before being booked. Howard faces multiple charges, including failure to stop for police, leaving the scene of property damage, reckless operation and driving with a suspended license. Both businesses said they plan to remain open while repairs proceed. State police are continuing to investigate the incident.
