Boston police recovered several firearms and made at least one arrest on Saturday, July 5, after a series of incidents in the Mattapan and Hyde Park neighborhoods. Officers responding to a 2:00 a.m. shooting outside 695 River Street in Mattapan found one person with non-life-threatening injuries and recovered a firearm at the scene. A large crowd gathered, and additional units were called in; no arrests have been announced in that case. Later that afternoon, members of the Youth Violence Strike Force arrested Camran Brown, 22, of Dorchester after a foot pursuit that began during a large party call near River Street. Investigators say Brown discarded a ghost gun containing one round in the chamber and 16 in the magazine before being apprehended on Cummins Highway. He faces charges including carrying a firearm without a license, possession of ammunition without an FID card, carrying a loaded firearm, and possession of a large-capacity feeding device. In separate but nearby calls the same day, patrol officers recovered additional loaded firearms following reports of fights and disturbances in Mattapan and Hyde Park, underscoring heightened police activity in response to summertime gatherings and recent gun violence.
