THE VAULT: House GOP urges federal bank regulators to “promptly” process the proposed megamerger of Capital One and Discover. More on the acquisition in @PunchbowlNews PM: https://t.co/TOVbYJfYZk
Capital One and Discover Financial are facing a proposed class action lawsuit to block their $35 billion merger. The lawsuit, filed on July 22, claims the merger would reduce competition, drive up prices, and violate US antitrust law. The US Treasury Department's Office of the Comptroller of the Currency (OCC) has denied a Freedom of Information Act appeal regarding the review of the merger, withholding 195 of 210 pages. Meanwhile, House GOP members are urging federal bank regulators to promptly process the proposed merger. The lawsuit also raises concerns about public interest objectives.
