An offshore drilling barge, the Admarine 12, capsized on Tuesday evening in the Gulf of Suez near Egypt’s Gabal El-Zeit oil-production zone, the Egyptian Ministry of Petroleum and Mineral Resources said. The vessel was carrying 30 crew members; authorities confirmed four deaths and 22 injuries, while search-and-rescue teams are still looking for three missing workers. The jack-up unit is owned by a subsidiary of Saudi-listed ADES Holding Company and had been contracted by Offshore Shukheir Oil Company. It overturned while being towed to a new drilling location about 300 kilometres south of the Suez Canal. The Suez Canal Authority said shipping through the canal remains normal. Egypt’s ministers of petroleum and labour travelled to the site and activated an emergency plan. ADES said the barge and personnel are fully insured and pledged a comprehensive investigation in cooperation with Egyptian authorities.
