Hunter Biden on Aug. 14 flatly rejected First Lady Melania Trump’s demand that he retract and apologize for saying Jeffrey Epstein introduced her to Donald Trump, replying "F*** that. That’s not going to happen" during a follow-up interview posted on YouTube by Channel 5 host Andrew Callaghan. Melania Trump’s attorney, Alejandro Brito, had sent Biden a letter on Aug. 6 threatening to sue him for “over $1 billion” in damages if he failed to withdraw the remarks and issue a public apology by 5 p.m. Eastern on Aug. 7. The notice alleges the claim is false, defamatory and has caused the first lady “overwhelming financial and reputational harm.” Biden said he based his statement on reporting by author Michael Wolff and on 2019 New York Times articles that cited unnamed sources claiming Epstein boasted about introducing the couple. Calling the threatened litigation a “designed distraction,” he invited the Trumps to sit for depositions about their relationship with the late financier. The Daily Beast and political strategist James Carville previously retracted similar assertions after receiving legal warnings from Melania Trump. The Trumps maintain they met through modeling agent Paolo Zampolli in 1998. Neither the first lady’s office nor Brito have indicated whether they will now file suit following Biden’s refusal.
