European intelligence officials have raised concerns over an escalating sabotage campaign attributed to Russia across multiple European regions. The campaign, which initially involved acts of vandalism, has intensified to include arson, bomb plots, and assassination attempts, increasing the risk of serious injury or death. Parallel to these developments in Europe, Russia has also intensified its information warfare efforts targeting Japan. Officials report coordinated disinformation campaigns utilizing Japanese-language media, proxy networks, and state-backed outlets, including a localized version of Sputnik. This escalation has sparked domestic backlash in Japan, particularly after a Sanseitō party candidate appeared on the Russian propaganda outlet Sputnik without authorization. The Japanese government has responded by recommending the resignation of officials who permitted unauthorized media appearances. Additionally, Japan's Agriculture Minister has expressed concerns about foreign interference in elections, referencing Russia's use of automated bot programs to influence previous elections in the US and the UK.
