President Donald Trump said Tuesday he is prepared to deploy the National Guard and, if necessary, other U.S. military forces to safeguard the 2028 Summer Olympics in Los Angeles. "We’ll do anything necessary to keep the Olympics safe," Trump told reporters at the White House. The remarks coincided with Trump’s signing of an executive order that creates a White House task force to coordinate federal security, transportation and border measures for the Games. Trump named himself chair of the panel and Vice President JD Vance as vice chair, pledging what he called a “unified effort” to protect millions of expected visitors. Trump’s comments revive tensions with California officials after he ordered about 5,000 National Guard troops to Los Angeles in June during protests over immigration enforcement; most of those personnel have since been withdrawn. The president also reiterated earlier criticism of local leaders, suggesting he would act if they fell short on security preparations. LA28 organizing-committee chairman Casey Wasserman attended the signing and thanked the administration for its support. Trump added that the United States would bar transgender women from competing in women’s events at the Games, underscoring that federal involvement will extend beyond security to other policy areas.
