President Donald Trump said Friday he has “very substantial” American buyers interested in acquiring TikTok’s U.S. operations and is prepared to again postpone the deadline for China-based ByteDance to divest, potentially pushing the nationwide ban beyond the current Sept. 17 cut-off. Trump told reporters that national security and privacy worries about the short-video app are “highly overrated,” though he added the administration will “watch the security concerns” during any sale process and would raise the issue with Chinese President Xi Jinping “at the right time.” Congress mandated the sale in 2024 under the Protecting Americans from Foreign Adversary Controlled Applications Act. Since taking office in January 2025, Trump has issued three executive orders delaying enforcement; another reprieve would mark a fourth extension. The White House launched its own TikTok account earlier this week, highlighting the platform’s political reach. While Trump did not identify bidders, companies previously linked to a deal include Microsoft, Amazon and Oracle.
