Paris Saint-Germain continued its summer overhaul by completing two high-profile transfers in the space of four days. The French champions first secured Lille’s 23-year-old goalkeeper Lucas Chevalier for about €40 million, then on Tuesday confirmed the arrival of Ukrainian centre-back Illia Zabarnyi from Bournemouth in a package worth €63 million plus €3 million in bonuses. Chevalier signed a five-year deal while Zabarnyi committed until 2030. Chevalier’s recruitment has had immediate consequences for long-time No. 1 Gianluigi Donnarumma. Head coach Luis Enrique left the Italy international out of the 20-man squad that will face Tottenham Hotspur in Wednesday’s UEFA Super Cup in Udine, telling reporters he “wanted a different kind of goalkeeper” and was “100 % responsible” for the decision. People familiar with the situation say PSG are ready to sell Donnarumma for around €50 million. Manchester City have made exploratory contact but view the price as steep, and Chelsea have ruled themselves out. Donnarumma, 26, is under contract until 2026 but is expected to clarify his future in the coming days.
